NEXEN GUIDE / REVIEWED 23 AUGUST 2026

How to read an Australian electricity bill for solar and batteries

The bill fields that shape system sizing, tariff assumptions and the questions Nexen asks next.

Start with energy, not dollars

Quarterly spend is useful for a first screen, but kWh consumption, billing days, tariff type, demand charges and feed-in credits reveal much more.

Find the tariff structure

Record usage rates, controlled load, time-of-use windows, daily supply charge and any demand charge. Do not assume one flat rate if the bill contains several.

What Nexen still needs

A bill cannot show half-hourly load timing. Commercial and industrial economics require interval data before demand management or BESS value can be modelled responsibly.
